Homeopathic Sleep Remedy? Reviewing Rescue Sleep Liquid Melts by Bach

The world of homeopathic “dilutions” is something I’ve gotten into before — or at least tried to, without a ton of success. I’m all for natural remedies, and I see supplements as just that: supplements in order to help optimize rest and sleep, not one-size-fits-all solutions (which is why I review a lot of different supplements and natural remedies for restlessness!). But the science behind homeopathic dilutions is shady at best, and despite having tried a few, I haven’t found any to ever prove effective.

But I enjoy the process of testing and working to take an objective stance, when a friend who reads this site recommend I try Rescue Sleep Liquid Melts by Bach (a combo of homeopathic dilutions), I was more than up to the task. Read below for what I found about this homeopathic sleep remedy.

Stated Use

Provides natural relief of occasional sleeplessness caused by stress and repetitive thoughts.

Adults and children over 12, place 1 capsule on tongue and let dissolve prior to resting. Additional capsules may be taken as needed.

Active Ingredients

Rescue Sleep by Bach LabelHomeopathic dilutions: Helianthemum nummularium, clematis vitalba, impatiens glandulifera, prunus cerasifera, ornithogalum umbellatum, aesculus hippocastanum.

Other ingredients: carnauba wax, coconut oil, gelatin (fish), grapeseed oil, natural orange flavor, natural vanilla flavor, pectin, sorbitol.

My Experience

I took my first liquid melt 30 minutes before bed, and the actual ingestion was a very pleasant experience; they quite literally “melt” on your tongue, leaving a pleasant taste and aroma. I took these on a few different nights — up to three at a time — and up to several weeks apart. But I noticed nothing particularly special or different about the sleep I got. On a few nights, I slept fine, but about how I would generally sleep without any supplementation. And on two other nights when I took these, I actually experienced insomnia (something I work hard to avoid by changing the factors around my sleep, including environment, schedule, diet, exercise, and of course supplementation.

Basically, whatever was diluted in Bach’s formula didn’t come across strong enough to affect me at all. At least, that’s how it felt.

Pros:

  • Pleasant tasting and a good delivery system — I wish more traditional sleep supplements could be taken like this

Cons:

  • In my experience, didn’t work at all, even after multiple weeks of testing

The Final Word

Natural learnings, lessons, and remedies have proved valuable to me over the years. Many of my favorite sleep supplements are made with earth-grown ingredients. But Rescue Sleep by Bach didn’t work for me in the slightest. I’d highly recommend turning elsewhere if you’re hoping to supplement a good night’s rest.
